Of Mice & Men - Earth & Sky Review
Review by: Brittany Swigert
Of Mice & Men have proved once again that a consistent sound, dedication to thier brand, and hard work make for one incredible album. Over the last couple of weeks I have been listening to Earth and Sky, which releases today, September 27, and every time I do, I hear another nuance that pulls me back in. They have really knocked it out of the park with this one. It is easily well on its way to being amoung my top 10 best of year album rankings.
The album opens up with "Gravedancer" and it was a killer way to kick things off. It features some interesting guitar choices, sick screams and drumming that stands out from the rest of the music I have been hearing lately. While most bands have been showing alot of change in an effort to keep up with shifting trends, Of Mice & Men have shown that they are confident enough in thier sound to keep to it and I respect that. That doesn't mean they haven't continued to grow thier sound over the year.
If you are looking for an album with a good blend of heavy screams and some really phenomenal cleans, Earth and Sky is the way to go. "Mushroom Cloud" is a great heavy track to get you pumped. It offers some great vocals a killer bassline and fast drumbeats that will get blood pumping. And it's not the only track that will get you going.
"The Mountain" is one ok my favorite tracks on the album. The vocals are so crisp and the cleans seem to have a higher pitch to them. The screams are gritty and I can't get enough of it. On top of that, the guitar riffs and interesting and well thought out.
Earth and Sky is a fantastic addition to Of Mice & Men's already incredible collection of music. I am really glad I had the opportunity to check it out. The singles they have dropped so far are great examples of what to expect from the latest album.
