EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY

Despite the name of the tour being The End Tour, Austin based post-rock band Explosions In The Sky showed that there is anything but the end in sight. With this tour in support of their recently released eighth album entitled End, EITS made a stop recently at the 9:30 Club located in Washington, D.C. Due to the popularity of this tour, two dates were added for this particular stop, both of which sold out completely.
With the venue packed with those eager to see EITS return to the area, rolling fog from the stage permeated every available space throughout the crowd, mixing in with the low lighting of magenta and blue. The mood was set by ambience alone, but the performance that accompanied it just made it that much better.
Seeing an EITS performance was quite the experience. This was my first rock concert that involved no singing. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a purely instrumental performance, but the ambient tunes that surrounded concert goers was something unlike anything I’ve ever encountered before. Headbanging was replaced with head nodding, moshing was replaced with swaying. For a rock concert, it was a pleasant change-up from the standard fast-paced sets. The entire performance felt unpredictable, but in a good way.
The End Tour continues through November 20, 2023, where the last stop will take place in Madrid.
