KNOCKED LOOSE - MISTAKES LIKE FRACTURES EP REVIEW

Review by: Alicia Dittman

Upon hitting play on the new Knocked Loose EP “Mistakes Like Fractures,” the first thing you hear are some heavy guitar tones that cut through to grab the listener's attention. Vocalist, Bryan Garris then comes soaring in with the opening line of the title track “The Light Has Stopped By The Tree Line and I am chained to the ground” backed up by a fast riff from guitarists Cole Crutchfield and Isaac Hale. The song moves stylistically through a couple shifts. Starting with the more metal-inspired first verse to an almost slam-esque middle section, leading up to a two-step that you can't help but get hype to, and concluding with a signature,Knocked Loosebreakdown. Mistakes Like Fractures is an excellent opening song, as it sets a heavy and deep tone for this 3 song EP.

The second song is a cover of the song “Slings and Arrows” by The Warriors, which was originally released in 2005. Bryan does a superb job with the vocals on this track and the band keeps up with the fast pace of the song as well. It is a cover that was done exceptionally well, fits right into the band's wheelhouse, and will not disappoint those who are fans of the original song.

The last song is a remake of one of Knocked Loose’s older songs “All My Friends.” This track was originally released in 2014 on their first five-song EP “Pop Culture.” Comparing the original to the remake, Bryan has definitely began to use his instrument with more control and in a heavier tone. While they are both great, the version on this EP reflects how the band has grown and will be better received by the band's newer fanbase.

This EP proves that Knocked Loose is one of the leading bands in the scene today and will only keep moving on to bigger and better things. They have a solid fanbase following them through the evolution of their sound, and it will only continue to grow. This band has unlimited potential and will keep perfecting their craft, both individually and as a unit.
