Dance Gavin Dance Afterburner Tour Review
9/27/201 - A night of pure chaos
Seeing Dance Gavin Dance before, I went to the Afterburner Tour in Norfolk, VA kind of knowing what to expect. Boy was I wrong. As if Dance Gavin Dance wasn’t enough the tour was support by the amazing acts of Polyphia, Veil of Maya, Eidola, and Wolf & Bear. A lineup sure to blow the face off of any metalcore/alternative fan around.
The night started with Wolf & Bear from Sacramento, Ca, who brought the show to start, blends clean vocals with screams along melodic music. Some would even compare them to a lighter version of Dance Gavin Dance and that would be 100% correct. Next up on the lineup was the metalcore favorite Veil Of Maya and Polyphia. Veil of Maya mixed clean vocals with screaming lending the very djent sound that everyone knows and loves. Polyphia followed up bringing face melting solo after solo. Nothing about their set is ordinary at all!
Dance Gavin Dance shined at the Norva! Bringing a mixture of the semi old songs from Mothership all the way up until their new songs like Prisoner and Lyrics Lie. Tillian’s voice and body moved perfectly with Will Swans, angelic style of cords and tones. Jon Mess brought the fire as usual. Weird lyrics and hellacious screams complemented the band perfectly. Song after song after song we sang our little hearts out. You never miss out on a class act performance when it comes to any of these bands. This was definately what the US needed after such unprecedented times. These guys didn’t miss a beat, even though the tour was postponed for so long!
