FLOYD FEST 2019!

Written by: Kasey Davis

Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Patrick County, Virginia, Floydfest brings a unique festival experience like no other. Though Floydfest demonstrates a stacked lineup year after year, this festival boasts much more than great music. The festival promises to be a fun filled five days packed with tons of recreational activities, family fun and all the best food and drinks Virginia has to offer.

One of the most unique parts of Floydfest are the outdoor activities they have available. The festival grounds are home to the Moonstomper trail where festival patrons can hike, bike or run throughout the festival. Not only that but every year on the closing day of the festival Floydfest holds a 5K race along the Moonstomper trail. Festival-goers can sign up for the 5k at any time during the festival at the outdoor adventure tent, which is the hub of all the outdoor activities Floydfest has to offer. The Moonstomper trail isn’t the only place for festival-goers to hike either! Throughout the festival there are many guided hikes available. In addition, the festival offers yoga and disc golf on their 18-hole disc golf course all throughout the festival. It’s safe to say Floydfest has a little something for everyone at the Outdoor Adventure tent.

Floydfest isn’t just for the grown-ups either, this is one festival that has made sure to cater to families and make sure that everyone is having a great time. Children’s Universe is Floydfest’s area catered especially for your little ones and they’ve made sure to pack the CU with just as much talent and activity as the have every other area of the festival with performances all throughout the course of the festival. But the performances aren’t the only thing Floydfest has in store, they also have workshops throughout the weekend for kids to participate in. With workshops like hooping and juggling and theatre any child is sure to have the time of their life.

Finally, what would a music festival be without the music. Floydfest is known for bringing incredible and genre defying lineups to Virginia with past acts like Foster the People, the Lumineers, Gov’t Mule and Greta Van Fleet it’s no wonder the festival has been going on for nearly two decades, and this year is no different. The lineup boasts classic jam band acts such as Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band and The String Cheese Incident; additionally, the festival also brings in up and coming names like Kacey Musgraves and Jade Bird. With over 100 performances on 8 stages and so many activities Varsity has their hands full with things to cover but we are so excited to be at Floydfest in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and we hope to see you there!
